About

I was born (1966) and raised in Lancashire, England. I learned the soprano recorder from age 7, the guitar from age 10, the flute from age 11 and the piano from age 13. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from Lancaster University (1987) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (teaching certificate) from Birmingham Polytechnic (1989). I taught for four years (1989-1993) in high schools in central England before moving to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. I taught middle school band for 6 years in a private college prep school from 1993-1999. I moved to Tallahassee, Florida where I completed a Master of Music Education at Florida State University (2000-2001). I then moved to Panama City, Florida, where I taught for 6 years as an elementary music teacher in a K-12 public school. I moved to Mooresville, North Carolina in 2009 so that I could continue teaching elementary music for another 3 years. I left classroom teaching in 2012 and began my own business, "Reed the Music." I teach piano, flute, guitar and recorder at home. I would like to do a Ph.D. in Music Theory when and if I retire. ;-)

I work hard to make sure my students reach the goals they set for themselves, and then I set them higher goals which we work toward with a positive attitude and a sense of humor. I like to be creative in finding different solutions to problems and teaching students to believe in themselves and push harder for personal achievement.
