Mark began playing the piano at a very early age. After studying privately for six years, he entered the Preparatory Program at American University at 12 years old. There, he studied theory and composition along with private lessons from Milton Kidd, the director of the program.

Upon moving to Florida while in high school, he had the unexpected and life-changing experience to be accepted as a student of Gray Perry (see Google and YouTube), a star pianist who studied with renowned teachers Franklin Cannon, Isidor Phillipp, Martinus Sieveking, and Ethel Leginska. These teachers wrote many of the most well-known piano method books, many of which have been in publication for over 100 years.

Mark also had the good fortune to participate in masterclasses by noted concert pianists such as Leon Fleisher and Harriet Shirvan, among others.

During his senior year in the School of Architecture at the University of Florida, Mark presented a lecture-recital on a comparison of art, architecture and music of the 19th century, culminating with the playing of Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin.  The following year he began his career as an architect while simultaneously continuing his piano studies with Gray Perry. That year he was selected as Sarasota, Florida’s First “Young Artist”; as a reward, he appeared at David Cohen Hall performing works such as Debussy's L’Isle Joyeuse and Chopin’s Ballade #1 in G minor.

While Mark chose the career path of an entrepreneur, inventor and designer, Mark has a strong desire to pass down the patrimony of technical and tonal production skills he gained from Gray Perry (and others), who, in addition to the Letschetizky method, incorporated the teaching of other great teachers. Mark derives enormous satisfaction from seeing students apply these techniques to significantly accelerate and enhance their own development as pianists.

Regardless of what kind of piano music a student would like to learn, having a solid technical foundation is essential to progress efficiently and to gain maximum freedom of expression. I essentially use the Leschetizky method as taught by my longtime teacher Gray Perry, who in turn passed this pedagogy down to his students.

For a piano student who wants to develop blistering scales and powerful octaves and arpeggi, etc., I know no better pedagogy. More importantly, the Leschetizky school is known for exceptional tonal production. The piano can be extremely expressive, but only for those who know how to produce the broad variety of tone that a piano is capable of.

Through this approach, the student will quickly gain a degree of control that is not easily attainable otherwise.
