I have taught piano/keyboard lessons for over 18 years to children ages 5 and up and to adults of all ages. I received a BA from Columbia College in Music and Arts Administration. I love teaching all ages and believe lessons should be fun while being structured and educational. I taught piano lessons at a music studio as well. I love teaching beginners/newbies. I aspire to bring out each student's best with an individually focused lesson plan in a positive, encouraging, creative and patient atmosphere. I have been an accompanist for several groups including various college and high school choral groups and vocalists.
I have always loved the piano and want to bring the joy of making your own music in the moment to each student!
Please email me for other lesson time availability if needed.
I tailor lessons to meet each individual student's needs and learning styles/abilities. I use method books, supplementary materials and let the student choose music they like as well. I believe encouragement, patience and positive reinforcement creates the best environment for learning and building confidence. I want each student to feel comfortable learning at their own pace. Lessons can be adapted to a student's goals or interests as well.
I believe teachers should always be learning as well. I research, attend seminars, and study to find new ideas and teaching methods to enhance learning and continue to grow as a teacher.
Also, I specialize in helping students that are especially nervous or sensitive about taking lessons. The studio I taught at recommended me for students that were afraid, more sensitive or shy with lessons.
I love to share the joy and creative expression that can come from learning to play piano.
Lesson methods and materials are based on each individual's level and needs. I use various method books (Bastien, Faber, Schaum, etc.) including finger exercise books and workbooks. Also, other music is selected to enhance and support learning and interest. Students will need a method book, theory book. and notebook.
Students are encouraged to pick music they would like to learn as well.
Students will need music flashcards (buy or make their own, free online templates are available for flashcards).
