Hello my name is Shawn Garrone. I am proficient/experienced in advanced Saxophone and Oboe performance. I have a year of experience in teaching in a school setting, working with children from grades 4-12.
I am an Undergraduate Oboist at Rowan University.
I love teaching private lessons and have a passion for seeing my students excel in music and improve past their competition!
My focus for lessons is developing in students a strong foundation in their tone, articulation, reading and musicality right from the get-go regardless of their age. Music I believe is a disciplined art-form which can only be perfected from proper lessons and practice.
I have spent the past year working with students in between 4th and 12th grade in a school setting. I mainly focus on teaching the woodwind players but I have helped the brass and percussion players as well. I am very good at helping kids that are just starting out and are not sure what they can do with their instrument in terms of embrouchure, rythym, intonation, and articulation. My focuses are in Oboe and Saxophone performance and teaching. I have studied with David Schneider, Principal Oboist of the Philly Pops, Joe Rotella for Saxophone and oboe, and am currently taking lessons with Robert Portnoy of the Ocean City Pops.
I have experience from high school in leadership positions in Marching Band leading my peers in excelling as musicians. I have participated in the Regional SJBODA Concerts both as a student and as a volunteer music teacher.
I am the 1st Chair Oboist of the Atlantic Pops in New Jersey. We have 3 concerts a year and frequently feature guest artists and conductors.
I will be attending Rowan University for Music Education this Fall 2016 with a focus in Oboe and Saxophone as my secondary.
