Chinese Calligraphy

About Chinese Calligraphy

In this unique class, we will challenge ourselves to explore authentic Chinese calligraphy fundamentals and styles through hands-on experience. The class begins with the characters of number 1-10 in Chinese which includes some of the stroke patterns that appear in most Chinese language writings. You will also learn many stroke orders, which are the CORE of the writing in calligraphy form. Furthermore, we will learn how Chinese characters were formed by tracing them back to ancient times, how each character is cohesively connected to the ink brush painting styles in Asian art, and how the character writing style impacted contemporary art, especially in the early 20th-century Chinese artist's work. We will also be learning how stroke relates to the breathe – Qi, the energy flow.

The class is open to all ages particularly beneficial for Chinese language learners and visual artists.
