The Magic Flute
This class is designed for absolute beginners, without prior knowledge (or little knowledge) of reading music, or playing the flute.
In this group class, we will learn how to play the flute from the very beginning: we will start with learning how the flute works, how to produce a sound, how to hold and balance the flute, transitioning to learning finger positions, learning to read music, fundamental theory.... Gradually we will move on to being able to read and play simple melodies, and build our skills further from there...
The students can expect to thoroughly learn all the fundamental skills necessary for playing the flute, as well as the basics of reading music notation, understanding different rhythms, being able to sight-read music and rudimentary principles of music making ( which will also help them should they wish to transition to a different instrument later).
The students will need a flute in working condition, a music stand, a notebook and a pencil. All other materials are provided by instructor.

How It Works

Hello there! My name is Diana Desai. I am a professional flautist based in northern California. I have been playing flute for 12 years. I began studying this instrument in California, but received a lot of my training in Saint Petersburg, Russia in the renowned "Saint Petersburg State Music College named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov", where I studied under the guidance of great musicians--soloists of some of the best orchestras worldwide. Currently I am living with my husband in California. I am equally excited about working with complete beginners and with intermediate level students! My teaching experience encompasses more than three years of working privately with students of all ages, levels and backgrounds. I always try to make my lessons as exciting and inspiring to my student as I can, employing innovative approaches to understanding and interpreting music. Teaching flute to others is my passion, and I am excited to start this journey into the amazing world of music with you!
