Find inspiration in the textures and patterns you see in the nature to create multi-color block prints. Learn how to print in layers of colors made from a single block as well as how to combine blocks in a single composition. You’ll use these blocks to create prints as well as to print patterns that can be used to make personal stationery, patterned fabric, journal covers, and even as wall patterns. Open to individuals of all skill levels.

This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Participants should enroll at least two weeks before start to ensure materials kits arrive in time. If registering after this point, your kit may arrive after the first session. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.

Class Materials

Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $75 shipped to your door. Residents outside the USA will pay the difference in shipping.

The kit includes:
- Speedball Speedy Carve Blocks (two blocks 3x4, and one 4x6)
- Linoleum cutting tool
- Bamboo Paper folding Tool
- Speedball Block Printing Inks, Basic Set
- 3” Soft rubber brayer for rolling out the ink
- Drafting Vellum (for transferring images, tracing paper also works)

Students will also want to provide:
- Pencil with soft lead (#2 or softer), and an eraser
- Their own printing paper - all papers are acceptable for this process, including Japanese paper and handmade papers. Paper needs to be at least 4x5 or larger.
- Materials to make a printing jig: a piece of cardboard or cardstock at least 8x10, x-acto, cutting mat or other acceptable cutting surface, ruler
- A surface for rolling out ink, at least 8x10: a piece of glass or plexiglas, metal pan, large plate, etc.
