About Dyeing Reproducibly: A Chemists Guide to Consistent Color
Have you ever dyed some fiber and fallen in love with the outcome, only to be saddened that you have NO idea how to achieve that magic again? Then it's time to learn how to dye for reproducible color results, and the key is to think like a scientist (without actually being one!)
First, we'll discuss different types of dyes and how they work, with a focus on fiber-reactive dyes. We'll examine a wide range of factors which can affect the dyeing outcomes, and look at examples of how they can vary the color results. We'll talk about how to handle all of the materials safely, cover necessary equipment, and learn some good "laboratory" practices for working with our dyestuffs. Finally, the biggest key to reproducibility is good note taking, so we'll go through tips and techniques for setting up a dyeing notebook.
Handouts will be provided with plenty of "cheat sheets" to make the math easier. So whether you dye for weaving, spinning, knitting, embroidery or even sewing, with these techniques you will be dyeing like a pro!
