Japanese Fingerless Mitts by Hitomi Shida with Gayle Roehm

About Japanese Fingerless Mitts by Hitomi Shida with Gayle Roehm

Join the translator of the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible: 260 Exquisite Designs by Hitomi Shida, published in English in 2017, to knit the fingerless mitts project from this book, and gain experience and insight into the complex charts and symbols. These mitts are a good introductory project because they’re worked in the round, and you don’t have to worry about wrong-side patterning. We'll start the first mitt together, practicing chart reading and some of the more complex maneuvers, to be sure you can finish the project later on your own. The pattern will be provided; no need to purchase the book ahead of time. You must be comfortable knitting from charts.

Materials, Equipment, and Supplies the Student Must Bring to Class

Approximately 200 yards of sport- to DK-weight wool or woolblend yarn, preferably in a light color.
NOTE: the yarn weight specified in the pattern is DK, but many knitters find that too heavy. Sock or fingering will probably be better. Your yarn and needles should give you a gauge of 23 sts and 31 rows to 4” in stockinette, but there's stretch in the design. Needles to obtain gauge for your preferred method of circular knitting (magic loop, dpns or two circulars).
