About Let's Look at Long Draw Spinning Part 1 - Fiber Prep
The key to stress-free long draw spinning is preparing your fibres for effortless drafting. There are several ways we can prepare fibres for this style of spinning and this lecture/demonstration session will explain the pros and cons of each style of preparation. After discussing fibre selection for successful long draw yarns, we will explore methods for making spinning preparations using hand cards and drum carders as well as adapting commercially prepared fibres for easier long draw drafting.
Participants are encouraged to follow along with the fibre preparation exercises at home in preparation for Part Two, Long Draw Drafting on May 19, 2024.
The capacity for this class is 50 students.
Class Materials
- Hand cards (any style)
- Washed wool fibres, suggested breeds include Suffolk, Tunis, Rambouillet, Cheviot, or Merino
- OR commercially prepared spinning fibres from those breeds
- A drum carder is optional, if you have one
- Materials for note taking (pen or pencil, notebook)

Beginner - Some experience spinning, and able to spin a continuous thread.
