Loog One

About Loog One

Did your child complete Loog Zero enthusiastically? Are they eager to learn new songs and keep playing their Loog guitar? Do you want them to have fun while building on the music basics learned in Loog Zero?

Loog One is great for students who are still getting comfortable with the fundamentals taught in Loog Zero. We’ll focus on learning new songs and reinforcing the six notes, four chords, and rhythmic concepts of whole, half, and quarter notes. Students will build a diverse repertoire of Loog songs they can share with friends and family. We won’t tackle major new technical challenges. We’ll keep reading the rhythms learned in Loog Zero, but we’ll hold off on reading music on the staff until their fingers feel really comfortable on the fretboard.

What's Needed

Materials

3-String Loog Guitar
Strap (if you don’t have an actual guitar strap, a comfortable string or long cloth strip attached to the strap pegs will work)
Pick
Loog app for tuning

Playing Experience

Students should have completed Loog Zero. Alternatively, students who have not completed Loog Zero must know how to tune and hold the guitar. They need to know the notes in first position (3G, A, B, C, D, E, F, 1G) and the chords Em, G, G7, C. Lastly, they must be able to recognize whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes and understand their rhythmic value.

For Loog One, it’s no problem if notes still sound muddy or are hard to remember. Also no worries if you find chord changes and playing in rhythm is still tricky. As long as you are familiar with the notes, chords, and rhythmic values listed, you’ll be fine. We’ll shore up your tone and rhythmic precision together during the course

Class Structure

Each class will last thirty minutes. Students are encouraged to send the instructor videos of class songs between sessions to get feedback on their playing.

Class: Exploring Flamenco: Compás of Fandangos de Huelva and Tarantos

This was a fantastic lesson today! Leah's pace was just right for my playing ability--she want slowly enough so that I could keep up and yet not too slowly, thus keeping things challenging. I like the way she always demonstrates how to play things in a basic way and then shows us a "fancier" more musically interesting way to play it. Very much looking forward to next class!

Class: Spanish Fingerstyle Guitar with Leah Kruszewski

Leah is very attentive. She gives you multiple chances to understand what she`s talking about. She gives examples at the beginning of the class, explains how to do what she is teaching, takes questions, excepts different interpretations and points of view, and gives students a chance to play. She also gives examples at the end, first playing slowly, and then faster, so that we really get to hear the piece and appreciate its potential. Thanks Leah!
