Old-time Mandolin for the Young at Heart

About Old-time Mandolin for the Young at Heart

Cover the basics of playing old-time music on the mandolin. Study scales (D, G, and A), chords, pick techniques, and tunes from the traditional Appalachian repertoire. Learn to play melody, explore accompaniment and back-up skills, and get ready for a virtual jam! We’ll also work on playing the same tune in different keys. By the end of the week, you’ll be ready for some old-time pickin’.

This class is presented in collaboration with the John C. Campbell Folk School & is limited to 8 students. There will be an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony hosted from the Folk School campus that students can attend online.
