About Yarnitecture 2: Spinning for a Specific Project with Jillian Moreno
In this class we will learn about sampling for a specific project. We will explore how each decision in the spinning process affects your finished yarn and your finished project.
A few of the things we’ll discuss are:
Evaluating your pattern or type of knitting
Choosing fiber and fiber blends
Drafting for loft or density
Plying for stitch definition
What using a variegated fiber means to your stitch pattern
Keeping yarn consistent through a project
How to evaluate your yarn.
Elements of successful sampling
How to sample quickly
How to know how much fiber to buy
This Fiber Arts Seminar is offered as part of the 2021 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival and is limited to 20 students.
Class Materials Needed
A wheel in good working order, at least three bobbins, a lazy kate, a niddy noddy, tags to mark samples and pen and paper to take notes. Commercial fiber you’d like to use for your chosen pattern or style of knitting. Because of time constraints there won’t time to hand prep fibers in class. We will be using your fiber to sample; please don’t use your most precious, one-of-a-kind fiber.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner. If you can spin a continuous thread and know how to ply, this class is for you. Bonus points for having knit something with your handspun.

Two sessions on Thursday, April 29, from 10 am ET to noon ET, and from 2 pm ET to 4 pm ET.
Enrolled students receive 30-day access to the video recordings of the class.
Jillian Moreno
Jillian Moreno, author of Yarnitecture: A Knitter’s Guide to Spinning: Building Exactly the Yarn You Want, can’t stop writing and teaching about spinning and using handspun to knit, weave and stitch. She explores, questions and plays and wants to take as many people as possible along for the ride.

Students will also be able to join the Zoom sessions from their Lessonface dashboard. Students can connect to Zoom using a tablet or computer with reliable internet.
