Hi! I'm Kristi, a South African based composer specializing in composition, orchestration, music theory and education. My passion is to share my knowledge and love with my students and inspire them to become life-long learners of music.
In 2015 I completed my Bachelor's degree in Music Cum Laude and I completed my Master's degree in 2018 at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. I've taught music at an IB International school since. My works have been performed by numerous artists and ensembles in South Africa and abroad.
I follow a learner-centered approach. I believe that each student requires a unique teaching approach that is suited to their learning abilities. I always try to teach music to foster conceptual understanding and I use many of the International Baccalaureate Curriculum's philosophies to support this style of teaching. This method ensures that learning is done optimally and remains relevant for the student.

There are many effective texts available to use for teaching composition and theory. To name a few that I support would include: Harmony and Voice Leading (Aldwell, Schachter & Cadwallader), The Study of Orchestration (Adler), Analyzing Classical Form (Caplin), Twentieth Century Harmony (Persichetti) and Behind Bars (Elaine Gould). I also use my personal class notes and Slideshows that I've created through my own teaching experience.
