Tabla Class with Samir Chatterjee
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This six session tabla class with the highly esteemed tabla player and educator Samir Chatterjee is open to all ages, and will start at a beginner level. Techniques, intonation, simple to advanced compositions in various talas (rhythm cycles) and layas (tempo) are taught together with essential information related to the subject.
ABOUT SAMIR CHATTERJEE
Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso Tabla player from Kolkata, India, now based in the New York City area. He travels widely across the world throughout the year performing in numerous festivals as a soloist or with other outstanding musicians from both Indian and western musical traditions. He teaches at the Manhattan School of Music, the New School, and now is offering online seminars on Lessonface. His compositions are widely acclaimed as well as his writings. He has authored 'A Study of Tabla' and 'Music of India,' has published over 60 albums, and is founder and president of Chhandayan. Chhandayan is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Indian music, dance and culture.
Students may attend the course in-studio, at the Lessonface Classroom at 451 West St., NYC, or online. Choose your preference above. All enrolled students will be able to watch the class recordings, which are available within 48 hours of the live class.
WHEN
The live classes will occur from 5-5:45 pm ET weekly on Wednesdays, October 18, 25, November 1, 8, 15, and 29, 2017. All enrolled students will be able to watch the class recordings, which are available within 48 hours of the live class.
LEVEL
HOW IT WORKS
This class will be taught from the Lessonface Classroom in the West Village of Manhattan to an in-studio and live online audience. Students are able to attend by physically coming into the studio OR by joining over the Lessonface high performing video conference platform. A parent or guardian is welcome and encouraged to accompany a child student at no extra fee. All enrolled students will be able to watch the class recordings, which are available within 48 hours of the live class. The class is covered by the Lessonface Guarantee - let us know if you are not satisfied for any reason within two days of the first class and we will refund your tuition in full.
