About

I'm a flutist, Japanese language instructor, and Alexander Technique teacher based in Seattle, WA. My teaching experience spans over 15 years and includes online Japanese language lessons, private flute instruction (in person and online), chamber music workshops, and an assistantship to a Dalcroze eurhythmics course.

I hold degrees from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington. I completed additional studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland as a Fulbright Scholar and am an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.

Teaching Style

JAPANESE

I grew up bilingual and have since added a couple more languages to my toolkit, so I am excited to share my language learning tips and tricks with you! Whether you want to immerse yourself further in Japanese culture, prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), or simply polish your speaking skills, I have a personalized curriculum for you. I offer private tutoring, speaking practice sessions, and JLPT preparation classes (please message me for pricing options).  Private tutoring sessions include reading, writing, listening, translation, speaking (all formality levels), and personalized homework. Beginning and intermediate Japanese students only.

FLUTE

I welcome students of all ages and abilities into my studio. Lessons are structured around the student’s goals, whether to play professionally or as a hobby. Stylistic choices in musical expression and phrasing are taught by incorporating music theory, music history, and ear-training skills into lessons. Students learn to produce a beautiful tone and to express themselves freely.

As an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique teacher, I firmly believe that the psychophysical mechanism is paramount to success in healthy music-making. Lessons will incorporate many elements from this technique to help students practice efficiently, prevent and alleviate repetitive stress injuries, overcome performance anxiety, and perform confidently.
