Cael Chappell
About
Cael Chappell worked with basket weavers across Africa from 1991 to present. In 2017 he started weaving his own baskets, primarily using waxed linen thread and a technique called twining. Because of his extensive understanding of basketry, he quickly developed his own unique style of whimsical weaving. His baskets exhibit personality and life which engages viewers. Cael’s baskets have been featured by the National Basketry Organization, Handweavers Guild of America, Surface Design Association, Fiber Art Network, Surface Design Association, Society for Arts + Crafts, American Tapestry Alliance, Studio Art Quilt Alliance, Homo Faber, and others. His work has been featured in many other juried exhibitions and publications worldwide. He has written a book on his weaving specialties and often does presentations and teaches to weaving guilds and groups across the country.
