Gigi Matthews
About
Gigi Matthews is on the board of the Handweavers Guild of America with a focus on sustainability. She is a handspinner whose recent work uses reclaimed and recycled materials as well as rare breed (endangered) wool. As a herbalist she has a soft spot for plant fibers!
Her keen interest in fibers and materials is a result of decades of world travel. From the souks of Aleppo and Damascus to the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, markets in the south of France to the sheep pastures of New Zealand and Australia, she has gained a deep respect for textile traditions and creativity.
Gigi was awarded two ribbons for spinning at MAFA 2109, taught virtually at MAFA 2021, and taught Spin The World! at MAFA 2023 in which students "traveled" to the 33 countries she has visited.
