About All About Ombré: Handspinning Shades & Shadows
"Ombré" translates simply as shade or shadow, and it usually brings slowly shifting colors to mind. In this two hour class, we will explore great ways to use natural, neutral colors to take vibrantly dyed hues to the next level by creating tints, tones, and shades. We will work through straight-forward color theory, sequential blending, and ply structures for handspun ombré yarns.
Supplies, Equipment & Materials Needed for Class
• Fiber:
• ½ – 1 ounce of hand-dyed combed top with some color variegation.
• ½ – 1 ounce of undyed wool or wool blend in the following: white, gray, black (Example: undyed Shetland tops in natural white, gray, black.)
• ½ – 1 ounce of dyed wool or wool blend in a medium hue. (Example: cobalt blue.)
Kate is happy to answer questions before class about materials!
• Equipment: Handcards and a working wheel with several bobbins and a lazy kate or several spindles and a plying set-up
• Other Supplies: Index cards, pen, and paper
