Chilkat Beginnings: Thigh spinning Merino Wool with Alaskan Chilkat Weaver

About Chilkat Beginnings: Thigh spinning Merino Wool with Alaskan Chilkat Weaver

After a 30 minute presentation of WHAT IS CHILKAT WEAVING, students will be invited to bring their own stash of roving to their hands and thigh, to learn how Native artists in Alaska and Canada start preparing to weave a Chilkat Dancing Blanket (Robe), or a geometric Ravenstail Robe. Similar, but different to a drop spindle, renowned weaver, Lily Hope, will lead participants to create a two-ply strong bulky cord that allows for future finger-twining of circles and lightning without crushing the warp fibers. Come experience the beginning of a 2500-hour weaving process, by trying your hand at thigh spinning.

The capacity for this class is 25 students.
