As a devoted longwool shepherd and spinner, Kate Larson has spent several decades learning to make the most of wools that many folks do not find next-to-skin soft. The right scouring, preparation, and fine-tuned twist in singles and ply can make a world of difference. Learn her best tricks for troubleshooting, prepping, and choosing yarn construction for longwools, some rare breeds, and more.
Supplies, Equipment & Materials Needed for Class
• Fiber:
• The materials kit includes several kinds of spinning fibers from Kate’s own flock and more.
• Optional: 1 ounce of natural fiber you find coarse. (Example: Could include Lincoln, Karakul, Navajo Churro, etc.)
Kate is happy to answer questions before class about materials!
• Equipment: Handcards and a working wheel with several bobbins and a lazy kate or several spindles and a plying set-up
• Other Supplies: Index cards, pen, and paper
Materials Kit
