Common and Uncommon Tied Unit Weaves
About Common and Uncommon Tied Unit Weaves
Participants will learn the variety of tied unit weaves possible, using a systematic approach that changes the two components of a tied unit weave: the number and organization of the ties; the number and organization of the pattern shafts. In addition, different treadling options are possible. While most tied unit weaves require more than four shafts, summer and winter and another uncommon weave can be woven on four.
Participants will weave a sample and decide which structure they want to weave, hopefully covering a variety of them among the group. A longer warp allows for the weaving of a project, if so wished. Alternatively with some re-threading each participant could weave more than one sample. Drawdowns, fabric photos and weaving information will be shared so that each participant will have a number of options for future use.
The capacity for this class is 25 students.
