Discover the art and science of achieving smooth, even color on protein-based fibers using leveling acid dyes. This course provides a step-by-step guide to dyeing wool, silk, and other animal fibers with consistent results. You’ll learn how to prepare your yarn, mix and apply dyes, control pH and temperature for optimal absorption, and troubleshoot common challenges like uneven uptake and breaking.

Who Should Take This Course?
This course is perfect for fiber artists, indie dyers, and crafters who want to achieve predictable, professional-quality results when dyeing solid colors on yarn. No prior dyeing experience is necessary, just an interest to learn.
Also included in the class will be how to mix secondary and tertiary colors using three primary colors and how to make pastels and shades.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence to create beautifully dyed yarn in a range of vibrant, solid colors with precision and control.
The capacity for this class is 6 students.
Materials, Equipment, and Supplies the Student Must Bring to Class
MUST have a NOISH approved respirator mask or they cannot mix the acid dye powders.
One QUART GLASS jar such as a canning jar. Lid not necessary.
An apron or old clothing in case they get dye on their clothing.
Materials Kit and Kit Description
Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $15 which includes:
Dyes, glauber's salt, citric acid, handout, yarn, protective gloves, soap to wash yarn
I will also bring scales and spatulas for the students to use, a hot plate and pot for cooking the yarn.

Mary Egbert
Mary Egbert currently lives in Florida and in 2005 she raised a herd of 25 alpaca back in Utah, where she got her start in the fiber biz. She has many instructional videos on You Tube and an online classes at the Camaj School of Fiber Arts. She wrote 5-star rated book on Amazon titled the Art of Washing Wool, Mohair and Alpaca.
