About Dyeing with Lichens: An ancient source for color
Learn the history and methods of dyeing yarn with lichens. This ancient dye source has been used over the centuries by different populations of people throughout the world. This course will have a lecture portion and a hands-on portion where students will have the opportunity to dye their own take home hanks or yarn with provided lichen after learning the history of lichen dyeing, ethical harvesting, and dyeing methods.
What will students learn:
Students will learn the history of dyeing with lichens, ethical harvesting, identification of specimens, and dyeing methods.

Spinning and natural dyeing have been a long-standing fascination of mine. I started off dyeing with vegetable dyes found in my kitchen and have since expanded to a wide variety of natural dye sources, most of which I can find locally.
