About Fiber Blending for Everyone - Basics of Fiber Blending using Simple Tools
Have you ever wondered how to blend wool with other fibers to have a particular look or feel? or maybe wondered how to decide what fibers and proportions to blend for a larger amount of fiber to send to a mill? If so, this class is for you. We’ll cover sampling and effects of different fiber characteristics on the blends you can achieve and how they will spin up using handheld tools such as combs and cards. Samples of fibers and yarns will be available for discussion and handouts will be provided.
What will students learn:
How and when to blend wool with other types of protein fibers (mohair, angora, alpaca) or cotton to achieve specific characteristics such as luster, softness, and texture. Basics of using hand cards and combs will be covered.

None required, bags for samples of fiber would be helpful.

Elaina is the shepherdess at Avillion Farm in Efland, NC where she tends flocks of Shetland and Jacob sheep, Angora goats, Suri Alpaca, and cares for a large herd of Angora rabbits.
