Fingerweaving and Braided Ribbons
Fingerweaving and Braided Ribbons with Mathilde Yakymets-Lind
Braiding and fingerweaving are important techniques for ornamenting folk dress and household items, and they are a simple way to add color and texture to contemporary ones as well. Join us for a tour of traditional braided structures from Sweden and Estonia. You will see museum examples of these braids as textile embellishments and experiment with different structures and colors. You will also learn fingerweaving, which allows you to create wider bands with no weaving tools at all! Finally, you will learn how to add tassels and pompoms to finish your braids. This is a fun and easy way to play with fibers and create something beautiful and useful in the process.
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.
