Sewing for Fiber Artists

About Sewing for Fiber Artists

Pull that sewing machine out of the closet and learn fun, unique ways to use your handspun yarns in all sorts of clothing and home projects. We’ll learn different ways to use that sewing machine, as well as using specialty presser feet. We'll learn about handspun yarns that lend themselves to loop closures, knot buttons, and even piping! Did you know you can create fabric with your handspun art yarn without weaving or knitting? We’ll also explore various methods of seaming handwoven fabrics and other methods unique to sewing handwoven items. By the end of class, students will have a book of samples for later reference. Join in this exciting workshop and learn to enhance your (already beautiful!) fiber art with your sewing machine! Materials fee of $25 covers yarn and fabric samples, and the silk bias strips that we will be using for some techniques.

What will students learn:
Students will learn seaming techniques for hand woven fabrics, free motion techniques, couching, and sewing yarns.
