Sock It to Me: Setup Bonnet & Basic Sock on Your Circular Sock Machine
About Sock It to Me: Setup Bonnet & Basic Sock on Your Circular Sock Machine
Ready to crank out socks but not sure where to start? In this hands-on class, you’ll make a setup bonnet, master the hung hem, and tackle short-row heels and toes. With step-by-step guidance, troubleshooting tips, and plenty of practice, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to keep cranking at home. Bring your CSM, and let’s make some cozy socks—one row at a time!
The capacity for this class is 12 students.
Materials, Equipment, and Supplies the Student Must Bring to Class
Circular sock machine in working order with cylinder, needles, oil, floor mat, and supporting tools. We won’t be using a ribber for this project. Cylinder suitable for your yarn, typically 60, 64, or 72 slot cylinders are best with sock yarns. Your accessories: weights, heel hooks, latch hook tool (a spare needle will do the job), needle lifter (old credit card can stand in), oil. Waste yarn (best if it’s obviously different from the sock yarn), leftover sock yarn for the setup-bonnet, about 2 ounces; 4 ounces of sock yarn for the socks. You will need a stand for your machine given the tables used at shows - contact Amelia for ideas if you don’t have a stand already.
