About Spindle and Wheel - Spinning on a Walking Wheel

A "walking" or "great" wheel is what we think of as the wheel of the olden days. Well! It has a lot to recommend its self as a living working tool of our own age. Learn about this style of wheel and proper fiber preparation of suitable wool with hand cards. Bring yours to be evaluated.

Instructor Will Provide:
Two Walking wheels, wool suitable for hand carding, a few pairs of hand cards, point spindles

The capacity for this class is 10 students.

Hand cards if you own them or can borrow them

Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $5 which includes:

Advanced beginner (some experience)

What skills or knowledge do students need to take this workshop?

Ability to spin a basic yarn would be helpful.

Martha Owen is an artisan/shepherd and resident artist at the John C Campbell Folkschool (www.folkschool.org) in Brasstown, NC. She oversees classes in spinning/knitting,crochet/feltmaking /surface design and dyeing. Her adventure in spinning began here in 1978.
