About Spindle and Wheel - Spinning on a Walking Wheel
A "walking" or "great" wheel is what we think of as the wheel of the olden days. Well! It has a lot to recommend its self as a living working tool of our own age. Learn about this style of wheel and proper fiber preparation of suitable wool with hand cards. Make a simple point spindle and move to the walking wheel. Bring yours to be evaluated.

A walking wheel if you own one or can borrow and bring. I will be bringing one.
Materials Kit and Kit Description
Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $10 which includes:
Pencil roving, simple hand spindle supplies,
appropriate wool fleece . Use of Martha's walking wheel

Advanced beginner (some experience)
What skills or knowledge do students need to take this workshop?
Ability to spin a basic yarn would be helpful, but this can be a first lesson in spinning as well.

Martha Owen
Martha Owen is an artisan/shepherd and resident artist at the John C Campbell Folkschool (www.folkschool.org) in Brasstown, NC. She oversees classes in spinning/knitting,crochet/feltmaking /surface design and dyeing. Her adventure in spinning began here in 1978.
