Stash Buster: Novelty Fibers Flower

Stash Buster: Novelty Fibers Flower with Laura Berlage

Curious how to use some of the other, interesting, quirky, shiny, or just plain fun fibers in your stash? This design invites you to do that! Explore ways to play outside the typical wool box with yarns in pine punch needles, including working with multiple strands at once, using a “carrier” yarn to convince that skinny, shiny thread you really love to work, and tricks for keeping snarky threads organized while punching. We’ll also discuss color planning and how to get the most out of experimenting in this medium. Part of the delight of this project is that everyone’s pieces will be different! Adorn with a favorite brooch or button as a finishing touch, if you desire. Laura will also cover how to hem a piece that is round. Finished dimensions of the flower design are 14 inches diameter.

This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Participants should enroll at least two weeks before start to ensure materials kits arrive in time. If registering after this point, your kit may arrive after the first session. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.
