July and August Jams Now Enrolling

Improvisors of all levels are invited to join in for summertime jams, here at Lessonface. Excellent instructors will be hosting jam sessions for improvisors in all instruments, including voice, from all around the world in July and August. Learn more and find a great jam.

A week ago, on Wednesday, June 21, 16 instructors led our first ever live online jams to celebrate Make Music Day, and to try out a very exciting new feature from Zoom, Live Performance Audio. The sessions were a smashing success. Out of 50 survey responses from jammers, only one participant said they would not want to participate in future jam sessions. The remainder of teachers and students who joined in the day's jams were up for more jam sessions - in keeping with the improvisational nature of the format, and for which we salute you all! (including the student who does not wish to do more jam sessions, we hope you will find other learning formats you enjoy more). Here were some of the comments:

"Playing along with others without worrying about being perfect!" was the aspect of the jam that Erin, who participated in the Anyone Can Improvise session with Leah Kruszewski, enjoyed the most.

"This was an awesome experience!! I can’t wait and hope there will be another one!! I learned so much about how to jam with other people and had lots of fun doing it!! " wrote Kaitlyn, a participant in the Native American Flute jam, led by Ami Sarasvati.

A participant in the Call and Response Jam with Matt Franceschini reflected, "I so enjoyed participating and listening to the talent of my fellow jammers."

"Jim was an excellent teacher! Despite me knowing next to nothing about modes, and being so-so at best regarding scales, I learned a lot in the hour...One thing I liked most about the jam concept was it let me see that I am not the only person trying to learn an instrument who has a long way to go! I often think everyone else is already an expert, I suck, so what's the point...etc. But the jam allowed me to realize that I am in good company and it's just a matter of continuing the lessons and practicing until my guitar playing improves to the point I can play more confidently. Jamming with other novice musicians was super encouraging in that regard." noted a game student in Exploring Scales and Modes with Jim Funnell.

We are excited to host more jams with these great instructors later this summer! As community members know, Lessonface has offered recitals, open mics, and more performance opportunities for many years now, but jams have been elusive due to the technical limitations of online lessons, until now. We hope you'll join in, enjoy, and let us know how well it goes! View the upcoming jams.
