Starting From the beginning

It may seem obvious to quickly learn the basics of music including, notes, pitches, and eventually the diverse relations between the notes. For some new fans of music, beginners may have an interest in learning how to play an instrument and not be able to cover the basics as quickly. Here is a key starting ground: LEARN YOUR OWN PITCH. As simple as singing one note and trying to match it on any instrument( keys or guitar, or even an online sound simulator for other instruments that require former practice before playing the note.) The goal of this act is to relate the note and its name with a sound. It becomes easier to explain changing the pitches higher and lower. It will also help to explain the 12 universal notes and instill the basic knowledge of musical distances. Finally, when doing this practice on more advanced levels, the musician will start to sing/play more than one note based on the relation discussed(scales and Harmonies). I have had experiences where this method was key to successfully start from scratch and save lots of lesson hours. Please share and comment if you have ideas to add. Best HS.

I completely agree Salhi, proper foundation of music theory is the key to understanding basic instrumental playing or singing, good knowledge of notes on the staff, such as their values, names and basic interpretation as well. It is like a general language that all musicians must possess before learning to play by ear, once understood on a basic level music can really be fun for the beginners.
